For teens who grow up in an environment where everything is a struggle, feeling good can be a surprising, even bewildering, experience. (That’s the reality when your out-of-work parents can’t always put food on the table. Or when loadshedding means there’s no electricity to study for exams at night. Or, worse still, when your toxic neighbourhood means you’re frightened for your personal safety after dark …)
That’s why our Net Buddies treasure the safety and support they feel when they come to Infinite Family’s LaunchPads for study sessions and to have their weekly online conversations with their mentors.
Even better is the satisfaction that comes with setting themselves a goal, like completing a term paper, aceing an exam or coming to school when it would be way easier to hang out on the streets with the ‘cool’ kids. And then meeting it.
It is your generosity and support that makes this possible!
15-year old Lwando, who is new to the Infinite Family program, puts it best. This year he had his first experience of success after studying hard for a test and thinking it might actually have gone well. He was so excited by the unfamiliar sensation of feeling GOOD!
A direct result of the resources and support your donations provide!
What if he hadn’t joined the program? What if you hadn’t made a donation? Lwando may never have known what it meant to have a safe space to study and feel encouraged. But now he has, you can be sure he plans to stick around to savour it again and again!
THIS is the real and present impact you have on our Infinite Family.
Not just to Lwando but to the many other teens in Alexandra and Khayelitsha who just need one opportunity to show themselves what they are capable of. If you are planning to make a donation this holiday season, you’ll be ensuring more deserving young people get the same chance to feel good .. and, for the first time, see the possibilities for a brighter future.
